Pro-Choice GOP HD37 Candidate Continues Dishonesty

Rhino: Republican in name only.

At the candidate's forum in Gerard Hall on Thursday I noticed that GOP HD37 primary candidate Tami Christensen didn't pass out the usual fliers. Instead, they were make-shift done-at-home fliers that changed some wording around. I notice that her brochure said, "I am not pro-abortion. But I am women's rights."

Knowing that she pronounced herself pro-choice at the last forum, I asked "Ms Christensen, I seek a point of clarification. Knowing you called yourself pro-choice at the last forum and this brochure says you're not 'pro-aborton' and those are synonymous terms, here's my question; is elective, induced abortion something that you would protect or oppose as a legislator."

She said, "Jordan, I'm glad you asked. I made a sort of 'faux pas' last time. I didn't mean to say I was 'pro-choice.' I meant to say I was 'pro-women's rights.' And besides, I'm not running for the Supreme Court so I don't know why it matters...."

I briefly interrupted her and said that abortion is a legislative issue (which she knows very well, because her father chooses not to show up to vote whenever abortion is discussed from the House floor) and that our Montana income tax also pays for abortion which is a legislative issue. She said "stop interrupting me" and I responded "stop being disingenuous."

Christensen then continued to say she wouldn't stop abortion because she's "not God" and she's "not judgmental."

What are the presuppositions here?

First, do you have to be God to make a judgment of right and wrong? And if so, why is she for women's rights? How can she be for or against anything? If she's not God, then how can she make such a judgment that women's rights are right? It seems she's being "judgmental."

Is murder wrong, Ms Christensen? Why can you answer that question? You're not God.

Is theft wrong, Ms Christensen? Why can you answer that question? You're not God.

Is creating false invoices to defraud Basic energy wrong? Why can you answer that question? You're not God.

Heaven forbid we have legislators that can make decisions concerning what is right and wrong. What harm would fall on our society if we had legislators govern morally?

Christensen knows that "pro-choice" is synonymous with "pro-abortion" and it's synonymous with "women's rights" (is suffrage still an issue?). She's being dishonest with the voters and hoping we're dumber than she is.

Christensen knows abortion is regularly a legislative issue and not relegated completely to the judicial system. She's being dishonest with the voters.

Christensen knows she's signed a confession of fraud, and yet pleads her innocence. She's being dishonest with voters.

Yes. Character matters.

To All Those Who Don't Stand

Time and again I find myself in position to be one of the few to stand, to speak, to contend for something.

I'm not asking everyone to be a rebel. Not everybody has to fan the fires of revolt. But for crying out loud, could you at least speak up?

I attended a candidate's forum tonight. I know very well the convictions of at least half the audience in that room on the issue of abortion. I know they were as livid as I. I waited until the very last moment to speak - frankly, I would rather not. I would rather someone else deal with the issue. I would rather somebody else be the "bad guy." I sat there scanning the room, praying somebody besides me would ask the obvious questions that have to be asked.

Concerning the issue of protecting the unborn 1.3 million babies killed each year, how could I not say what I could or do what I could to end this tragedy? My question is 'how can you remain silent?'

I have a growing frustration with the Norwegian politeness (sometimes called Minnesota Nice) on the Eastern Montana prairie. Truly -it's frustrating. Good, Christian people will not speak up - even to defend the life of the unborn. Oh, they vote pro-life when they go to the voting booth (maybe). But they rarely will do so much as put up a yard sign - and God-forbid they write a letter to the editor! God-forbid they let their thoughts be known on the subject; it would be so...so...un-Norwegian of them.

The truth of the matter is that many (especially in small communities) so highly value their standing as "likable" that they would never dare do anything that may make them less-likable. I suppose when you've lived several generations-deep in a certain community, one of the skills you've learned over the years is how to get along with everybody. Back when people were truly inter-dependent upon one another for survival back in the frontier years, you certainly wouldn't want to do anything to mess up your friendships.

Times have changed. What hasn't changed is the command to stand up for something. Quit riding the fence already. God never once commanded you to be likable. He commands you to be on His side.

Long before William Travis drew a line in the sand at the Alamo, Moses stood in the camp of Israel (Acts 32) and said, "Who is on the Lord's side? Let Him come to me."

There's only one type of person that I blame for the atrocities of abortion more than the abortion doctors and liberal politicians - pagans will be pagans, after all. No - those of us who are really to blame are the Christians who for the sake of community social standing or just plain fear stand by in shameful silence as Satan's troops march to victory on the issue of abortion.

The great fear of the American Christian isn't persecution. It isn't tribulation. It isn't jail time, or death, or imprisonment. Our great fear is being less-liked in our social standing or being thought rude or uncivilized in polite society. These unspoken (ungodly) rules that our brainwashed souls feel compelled to follow (don't make a scene, don't speak out, don't make waves) form an invisible prison that keeps us from being effective proponents of God's words. I don't understand the thought that aggressively speaking-out is "uncivilized." No - killing infants is uncivilized.

At the end of the day, it's cowardice. For evil to win, good men need do nothing (Thomas Jefferson). Look around. There's lots of evil. And there's a lot of good men (and women) standing around silent, doing nothing.
